Weird misfire

Post by handyman »

Hi all, having fixed the ZX ignition system, I am still left with a misfire problem. The diagnositic reader does not not show any faults in the system by either memory interegation or by self test.
The symptoms: The misfire occurs usually under load at about 2-3k rpm and seems to be for one ignition cycle. The engine cuts out momentarily and the management light is illuminated but extinguishes itself shortly after. SWMBO had complained about the car cutting out on over run when coming to a standstill and the tickover being erratic. It does not do it when I drive it.
The symptoms only occur erratically and are not consistent but annoying.
The ZX is 1.6i, 8V saloon and is red in colour, in case that helps Stempy or Jeremy come up with an answer.

My wife had a ZX 1.9 Volcane (red) which had a similar intermittent problem with the ignition and that turned out to be a corroded connector on the CDI module thingy. Lovely car that ZX, wish we still had it.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right
