HDI engine oil

Post by np »

Is semi synthectic 10/40 engine oil good for my 110 Hdi?
I only ask as both the Haynes & Peugeot hand book dont mention a grade.
Cheers,Neil.

HDi's normally have fully synthetic recommended, partly due I suppose to the longer service intervals. I use Total 9000 5w40.

Ok thanks.I have some 10/40 semi synthetic fo it.It meets all the specs in the handbook. They did`nt have any 5/40.They had 5/30,which was £37! .
Gonna service it every 8-10k anyway.I`m a beliver in regular oil changes.12k is ok,but i would rather do it more often. :)

If you have a look around you can pick up fully syn oil for a good price. I dont use the big brands anymore as their too expensive. I've just returned from a trip States and they had some oil in Walmart that was $18.99 or £10.55 for FS!!
I seem to remember Halfords sometimes have their oil on offer.

Oil

Post by mrjohnson »

www.gsfcarparts.com

Total Quartz 9000 5W40 on offer for £15 plus VAT.

Orders over £50 (ex VAT) get free postage - so order 3 x 5L oil & 3 filters.

Just watch out - they charged me a higher price when they processed the order but refunded the difference when I rang them.

Regards

I bought a c5 110bhp hdi and rang the citroen main agent where it had been serviced from new and was told 10/40 semi synthetic should be used in it.

Running my HDi on Total 7000 semi. I think that's what Haynes says too. Cost about £11 from GSF. I change oil twice a year - just before winter and just after.

Thanks guys. Will shop around a bit more next time.Or put 10/40 semi in it.
My Haynes & the hand book dont say what grade.Just a chart showing operating temps etc, with oil from 0w/30,up to 20w/50.
20/50 :D The last time i used that was in the wifes old Fiesta that had an oil drinking problem :D

I change mine every 6000 using Quartz9000. Theres not much difference in price between dealer and gsf from memory. The filters are cheaper at gsf so tend to go there, especially as theres now a branch locally. :)

Thats the thing see.My local GSF in in Bristol. Its only about 7 miles away, but its getting there through the traffic.ECP`s is just around the corner for me,so i get most of my parts there as they are usally the cheapest.Peugeot & Citroen dealers are a pain to get to as well. :)
