Citroen xm 2.0 Starting Problem

Post by DAVID4 »

Hello Everyone,
I have just bought a Citroen XM 2.0 Carburetter model, which is very difficult to start from cold (not too bad when warm but sometimes troublesome, I knew there was a problem with the car, and as it only cost me £250 I did'nt mind the challenge. I have fitted new plugs checked and cleaned the distributor cap and rotor arm, fitted a manual choke conversion kit and even bought a new ignition module for the distributor in case it was playing up, but the problem still persists. I can only think it's an ignition fault because when I take out the plugs after considerable cranking they are sometimes wet. The previous owner had a new coil fitted last year; does anyone know if there are any ignition relays fitted to the carb models, if so maybe its one of them?I was told that relays are only fitted to the fuel injected models. The car drives perfectly ok without a miss, just very hard to start.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
David.
