TD Oil and Additives

Post by Guru Meditation »

I am new to the TD lark and want to know what oil do you people use in your turbo diesel? I have just bought 5l of Castrol GTX Magnatec for TD engines it is 10W-40 or 15W-40 stuff. I have bought a genuine Citroen Purflux oil filter-it feels heavier than the Halfords recommended own filter, are you sure Halfords make %100 identical pattern parts?
Also I hear that modern diesel is kind of lacking in some lubricants etc that make it necessary to put an additive in your fuel occasionally? What engine/injector cleaning additives do you use regularly etc as I'm always wary about bunging any old stuff in the fuel tank.

If you want to be really kind to your turbo diesel, you couldn't do better than use a top quality oil such as Miller's semi-synthetic. If you buy your Purflex filters from Andyspares, you will be buying the same as those fitted by PSA, and at a price less than Halfords own brand. As for using an additive, not everyone agrees but in all four of our diesels, I use either Redex diesel or Millers dieselclean. It ensures that injectors stay on the top line.

Hi there, also new to TD lark. John, you recommend Miller's semi-synthetic. I was intending using their fully synthetic in my Xantia TD, I've got 160k on my Pug 405 and have always used it. OTT possibly?

OTT?? Maybe, unless you intend to extend the oil change intervals. Personally, I prefer to change at 5 - 6000 with a new filter.
