Try pushing the key hard into the lock as you turn, some WD40 in the lock might help, otherwise you will have to change the barrels.

Reasonably common problem for Xantia's (and XM's), and not too hard to fix:

The door handle assembly on the Xantia is different to the XM (described in the above article) but once you get the barrel out they are identical and the problems and cure are the same.

Door Locks

I had a similar problem after my plip failed.

I found the following worked:

Push the key in as far as it will easily go.

Then push DOWN as you push in.

That will sometimes work when the lock is first starting to play up, but eventually the sliding section seizes up altogether due to water/salt/dirt etc getting in.

The drivers lock on my Dad's Xantia didn't work at all when he got it (it would just spin around and around regardless of what you did) but after we stripped it down and fixed it, it's been 100% for over a year now.

The trick is to get the sliding section moving freely - Photo 7 and Photo 8 clearly show the two limits of movement of the sliding section. Depending on which position it seizes in the lock will either "spin" freely, (but not unlock) or it wont turn at all.

We found it needed copious amounts of pentrating lubricant spray and lots of working back and forth to free it up, then the moving parts were cleaned and greased with a light grease and reassembled. Good as new!

my lock works 3 out of 4 times but then the rest of the time it locks solid and i cant turn it either way, is this the same problem,

if i push down and turn it sorta of clock wise it usually sorts it. so before i go stripping it down would this suggest siezed lock or worn lock?

Cheers
