Xantia disabling alarm

Post by dan_the_v8man »

Hi

i've got a 94 Xantia 1.9td which i bought recently

it came with the alarm disabled. problem is i've since done some work on it, disconnected the battery and its re-enabled the alarm. i've manage to silence it with the keyswitch under the bonnet but apart from that i cant stop it going off and flashing the lights when ever i go near it

the plipper is dead and i refuse to pay 100+ quid for a key for a 600 quid car so is there any other way i can disable the alarm? permanantly if need be as i always have a disklok on the steering wheel

the handbook says enter the car with the alarm going off, and with in 10 seconds turn the ignition on and press the button which disabled the interior pressure sensor for the alarm but the does nothing at all

Hi Dan.

I think that you need to press the button first and then turn on the ignition.

No doubt someone will put you right if I am wrong.

Dont know how to disable permenant though.

Slim.

A 94 Xantia will have a key switch to turn the alarm on/off. Its located under the bonnet just below the N/S wiper.

You thourght right, it does only shut the bloody thing up but the lights will still flash away.

Just a thought, why would you want to put a wheel lock on a 94 Xantia, it's not exactly a nickable car??

Why not get another plip from a scrapyard for next to nothing ? The series 1 Xantia's use infrared plips and it's easy to program your car to respond to a different plip. (Basically just turning on the key and pressing the button on the plip a few dozen times then turning off the key)

Also they can sometimes be fixed by someone good at doing fine soldering, as its usually dry joints on the IC's - my plip didn't work when I got the car and I managed to fix it by resoldering the joints and its still going fine a year later.

Simon

I think a second hand PLIP is the way to go. Maybe the one you have just needs programmed, I believe that's a simple job but I've never tried it.

You can test an IR PLIP, or any IR remote, with a digital camera. Infra-Red LEDs are visible if you look at the camera screen while pushing the Plip button. I learned that on this forum. :D

I had the same problem last week with a 94 Xantia which came without plips. After I reconnected the battery the alarm started going, but using the switch under the bonnet turned off not only the siren (as stated in the handbook) but headlight flashing and dashboard light etc.

Pull the main fuse out for the alarm in the dash fuse box.Cant remember which fuse, but that will stop everything on the alarm. The locking will still work though.
Used to have to do that on my Xantia sometimes to reset it. :)
