Post by sooty »

OK If the ZX and the 306 is suppose to share things alike, can anyone answer the question below:

1) Why is the TD exhaust system on these cars so difference in sise and prices.

2) Are they interchangeable.

They are different in the Bosal catalogue. The 306 comes in at 94.57 for front and rear, the ZX funny enough......£94.57. Both prices plus robbery tax. http://www.bodyshopwarehouse.co.uk/bosal/default.htm

I bought the complete system here for the 504 diesel, and saved loads of cash over what the monkeys at kwaks would of charged. Ok so you have to fit it yourself but then you know its done correctly.

Most parts from the drivetrain and brakes system are in fact interchangeable. But not body parts - or chassis related parts - like radiators, lights and exhausts.

The reason I posted this topic, was that I purchased a Citroen ZX silencer with a so called chrome tail pipe and down pipe from GFS last year.

The car has done some 20k since fitting. Within two months the chrome pipe started rusting and now the Bell end of the Silencer to the Down pipe connection has snapped off, the down pipe at present appears to be ok. This was a "Bosal" system. I can't take it back as I don't have the advice note.

Now its another £58-£125 from whoever supplies these silencers other than GSF.

It annoys me where the original whole system lasted some 9years and 160k. It just shows you can't get the same quality today.

Have you costed a genuine one?

Who fitted it? The reason I ask is that snapping is unusual unless it hasn't been supported properly.

Check them out, prices always seemed pretty good, although the last back box I got for the Xsara I got from ECP.....

I thought Bosal were supposed to be pretty good? The ECP one I got was Timax - I think thats what buypartsbuy supply too (dont quote me).

Jeremy

If you know a ZX TD exhaust system, you'll know that only the Rear Silencer is supported. The Front silencer and Downpipe is not, the only support it has is; the Exhaust manifold connection and the Rear silencer.
This being where the failure took place between the clamping of the two parts and the rear silencer itself. So the entire front part is unsupported exept as already mentioned. :o

Drpau,

I'll give em a look at, thanks.

My Haynes ZX manual shows 3 rubber mountings for the rear silencer. My question is - were all used - and did they all stay there?

As an example my BX TD Estate has an enormous silencer between the back wheels - and I found that one end was unsupported as one of the brackets was out of alignment and with vibration the rubber worked its way off the hook. A couple of cable ties solved the problem temporarily about 3 years ago.

Yes Jeremy,

All three rubber mounts are still there supporting the Large silencer, 2 near the joint and 1 on the tailpipe and in good condition.
