My cold idle electrovalve has packed up. I gather from forum searches that this is not unusual. Can I simply swap pipes and wiring with the EGR valve and run like that? If I do this is it a long term solution or should I be looking to get a new one and do it properly? Any problems with running with it not working ie fuel consumption etc?
Cheers
Duncan

It is possible to do this but the two plugs are not interchangable, you would have to do a bit of cutting to alter them. For the cost of the valve £14.32 incl. vat if you go to a Peugeot dealer Part No. 1628L9 I would just replace the valve. Are you sure the EGR valve is OK, on mine both were faulty.

I bought one of these valves from a Citroen dealer only 6 months ago for £13.77. Admittedly for that I did have to put up with the service manager telling me that "there was no way that would cause a fast idle problem on a Xantia", that "in 10 years of working on Xantias I've never needed to replace one of these valves yet", and "sometimes Xantias just idle fast and theres nothing we can do about it."
I ignored him

I have recently bought a third Xantia an automatic and the valve has given up on this one also, I have three Xants and two of them had this problem and the other one is the earlier engine that does not have a valve fitted, so really 100% of mine had a duff valve, typical service manager, I bet his hands were nice and clean.
