Xantia Driver Seat Height Lever

Post by PicassoPigeon »

Has anyone got a picture of this when installed mine has fallen off and I cant find the screws anywhere?

What screws do i need to re-fit? Is this a trip to B&Q?

Thanks, gav425

A set like this could be useful over the years

Sorry to hijack your thread but while were on the subject my height lever won't stay in position it just drops back to lowest. Can they be tightened?

It's loose and about to fall apart like Gav's! Instant MOT fail too as it's
dangerous - the seatbelt anchoring is on the seat which isn't secured
properly! I had this on a newly ebayed Xantia and all became obvious
once I took the plastic cover off the side of the seat.

It's held together with small torx head bolts that thread through the
lever adjuster plate and into the lower frame of the seat. They'll be on
the floor under the seat somewhere - have a good prod about - things
don't simply disappear!

AFAIR they are M4 bolts. They will probably be under the seats - mine were, and this was despite that fact that someone had already been there and replaced the original screws with smaller through bar (which had sheared off!).

ISTR that fitting it back together is a bit of a challenge - I think I put one screw in with it at high then pushed the lever down against the spring to get the other in.

I have a simmilar problem, although in my case it neither stays up not down.

Is it a known problem?

Or do I just dissassemble and check whats broken?

Most likely all that has happened is the two bolts that hold the clutch in place on the mechanism have fallen out ! This happened on my Dad's Xantia - when you'd sit in the seat it would go down and then it would go up again when you got out - it wouldn't stay at any position.

You'll need to take the seat out to fix it but once its out and you remove the adjustment mechanism on the side its a relatively easy job to fix! The two bolts just need replacing, but it can be a little bit fiddly figuring out the correct "timing" of the mechanism to allow the adjustment to work over its full range. (Roughly - the control stalk should be able to swing between horizontal and vertical)

Simon

Yep, the control still does move with the seat height - the spring that lifts the seat is still attached, as is the control lever, its just the clutch that locks the height in place becomes unbolted...

It is a fiddle though!
