Xantia not starting

Post by innerten »

I had to disconnect the battery for some time on my early 1997 Xantia 1.9TD, on reconnection I entered the keypad code light went to green, car won’t start. Discovered there is no fuel at the injector, is there some additional security that cuts the diesel. It’s a Bosch pump and I can’t find anything that looks like a stop solenoid, there is definitely fuel going to the pump.

There is only the stop solenoid on the pump that cuts the fuel off, get someone to punch the code in while you listen to the pump, when the last number goes in you should hear the solenoid click on the pump (don't mistake it for the click from the glow relay), if it doesn't click, then some kind of fault has developed from disconnection of the battery but exactly what is unclear, a green light on the keypad should mean its ready to fire up.
If you do hear the solenoid click, give the priming bulb a few squeezes, it could just be air getting in that is causing the prob.
How long was the battery off for.

Thanks Dave, once I could dismiss the solenoid I pumped the primer a lot, that did the trick.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
