This second relay was fitted to early Mk2 Srs1 cars, ie without intercooler. It was dispensed with on the Srs2 cars and there were many qwerky changes that do not seem to follow.
My first GTi Turbo2 was a Srs1 but was different to the current Mk2, Srs1 that I own. Makes me think the factory added parts to the cars as they felt like it!
A brief period of ownership of a late Mk2, Srs2 showed many different locations for items and I have never worked out why some parts, especially on the wiring looms were relocated. That Mk2 was a real dog of a car, many items worn and lots of rust!

Speaking about rust... (although a completely different story)
My CX is now 21 years old and rust is almost an unknown phenomenon :D . The subframe and doors are like new and when I recently removed the front window there was no sign of rust what so ever in the slot. The milage is quite low: 150000 km. A collegae of mine owns a Nissan of 7 years old and is complaining about the rust holes in the doors  . As often is the case: you must be lucky sometimes!
