ZX Disc Size

Post by rossnunn »

Are all 16v discs 247mm disks? or did they also come in 266? if so will the 266's fit on 248 hubs?

Quinton Hazell's catalogue shows the 16 valve as having 266mm diameter discs and all the others being 247mm. The 266 mm ones would seem to be ventilated which means wider calipers.

The discs on my TD are vented so I wouldn't have thought that there would be any difference in the caliper width.

But you never know........

I swopped volcane calipers onto my ZX Avantage, but had to have the 13 inch wheels replaced by 14 inch Volcane ally's to accomadate my vented discs.. :) it was still a very close fit...

I think you would need at least a 15 inch wheel to take the 266 disc, but I don' think the calipers need to be any wider for vented discs.. (Unless the Volcane I swopped from had abnormaly wide callipers of course)..

266 mm according to the QH list is BX size and they all had 14 inch rims as standard.

All ZX 16v's had 266mm discs, except the very last continental models with the Xsara VTS engine which had the 283mm versions as fitted to the Xsara.

Lesser ZX's had the solid 247mm discs with bendix or girling calipers, and the TD's and some petrols had 247mm vented with girling or ATE calipers.

Volcanes....I'm not sure. Would have thought 266mm to be honest.

Hubs should be to same, but offset of the 266mm is shallower than the 247mm IIRC.

Great thanks for that, that info might be useful as a sticky??.

I upgraded from standard to TD fronts some time ago, running on 14" Volcanes, now I have upgraded again to 16v fronts & disc'd rear's. (not done the fronts yet so can't tell you if they'll fit under a standard 14" alloy) also fitted the 16v servo - I now have some 17's to go on :D

The bigger discs would not fit into my 14 inch Volcane ally's, so I had to use the 247 vented disc..

I also had to get a bigger master brake cylinder fitted..

Proper ones aren't that bad when working correctly - good back brakes make a world of difference - especially if the self adjusters on drums are working correectly.

Just taken a peek at the front brakes on my Bro's 306, the caliper is different even though its a TD of the same year as the ZX I got mine from. I assume this is the difference between Girling & Lucus?? Calipers?
