Citroen Xsara oil change?

Post by boroboy »

Hi all,
I own a 99 Xsara 1.4 LX with 89,000 on the clock. I've just changed the plugs & now It's due for an oil & filter change, would 15/40 semi be ok to use?

Thanks.

Yes! But don't leave it in for as long as you could a synthetic.

John,
My car has just covered 5,000 miles since it had it's last oil change, I intend in changing the oil every 6,000 miles. Just thought as the car has covered over 60,000 miles I'd use a slightly thicker oil 15/40, don't know what the manual suggests from new?

Somehow I think the manufacturers development budget is greater than yours - and so I'd stick firmly to their recommendation.

All Citroen engines last extremely well when lubricated in accordance with their recommendations.

It's sensible to change the oil at 6000miles. The recommended oil for cold climate is 5/30 and for moderate climate 10/40. Both semi-synthetic. An alternative for moderate climate is given as 15/40.

John D,
Thanks for that, think I'll go with the 15/40 semi, all things considered.
