Bought Xantia and have no keypad code
I bought a 94 VSX Xantia. Seller has no code for the kepad immobilizer. Car is stuck in 'Neutral' mode and does not ask for code anytime.
Can I disconnect the keypad and forget it? Will it ask for the code sometime
in the future? Will it stop working if the batter is disconnected?
Thanks.

Once the engine is running the keypad can be disconnected and left disconnected. The immobiliser won't ask for a code again unless it is reconnected.
There is a company who will 'read' the code logged into the keypad. I can't recall the name of them but you post your keypad (+ fee) to them, they read it and return it.

You can fit any keypad into the car, it doesn't matter
- the code is stored in the ECU...
Sometime in the past the keypad has been neutralised
and you don't need it now even when the battery is disconnected.
If you want to reactivate the code you'll need the original 4 digit code
or an ECU replacement ftom a scrapper with the code known and
seen to be working.

So if the code is stored in the ECU, how does sending the keypad away to be "read" do any good ?

Is there any danger that the code will be asked sometime in the future? for example, if I disconnect the keypad and reconnect it? or if my wife (who has another Xantia with a working keypad tries to use her code on my car 3 times?)andmcit wrote:You can fit any keypad into the car, it doesn't matter

The car has had 3 previous owners and I know the last 2, none of which have ever used the keypad ever. First owner is non avaliable for questioning...
thanks.
(I am not in Europe, or I would send the keypad for reading. also, Xantias are not as cheap down here as they are in the uk)
Frankly, I doubt it will. I've used the SAME keypad with a series of differentMandrake wrote:So if the code is stored in the ECU, how does sending the keypad away to be "read" do any good ?

ECU's and their known codes to check they worked properly on an Xm and
a Xantia, so don't think the keypad has any influence. I've got a few keypad
Xantiae that NEVER need a code inputting into them EVEN after the battery
has been disconnected and reconnected a good while later.
I'm guessing the car which is the topic of this thread is a 2.0i VSX petrol?

Thought just struck me. I had the rubberised fronts of the keypad wear off
my TD 1.9 Xantia thus giving anyone a reasonable clue as to which numbers
to press so I bought another from a Peugeot in my local scrapyard and
plugged it in and it all works fine with the correct original code!!
As I said, it's the ECU that matters, and there's plenty being scrapped
around ebay etc here at the moment.

In truth there isn't really anything to worry about. I'm sure some timeekaftan wrote:Yes. 1994 (orga 6471) 2.0i VSX petrol automatic.andmcit wrote:

No diesel Xantias where I live...
through the last two owners' use the battery has beeen reconnected and
still the car starts immediately without a code being inputted - I've got a
very early 1993 VSX 16v which has had it's battery in/out a few times
now, and whilst the light may be red as the ignition is switched on the
light immediately goes to green when the ignition starter is turned
allowing the car to start!
No worries here!!

I'm happy to keep an eye out for you, I'm always on ebay/visiting breakers here.ekaftan wrote:Thanks. Will look around for one that can be shipped overseas... (I am in SouthAmerica)andmcit wrote: As I said, it's the ECU that matters, and there's plenty being scrapped
