ZX Plip reprogramming

I posted this inside an earlier post, but thought it may get more answers this way...

Just got a 97 (R) ZX SX TD Estate, and it came with no plip. Going by the last R reg ZX I had (1.8 Auto SX), it has the smaller "Saxo" teardrop type plip (not the old ZX square one). Is it possible to reprogram the car to it using the Xantia method (ignition on, fire it like hell at the receiver)?

Before anyone asks, I have confirmed that the car does have something behind the dome in the roof, although the Ultrasonics are disconnected currently.. fun times ahead!!

I know some people don't think the IR remotes are much good, but I quite like the idea of getting to the car before it works - noone can grab your code with one of these radio grabbers!

Years ago it was common to find watches with IR code snatchers. They could even store a number of different codes - and re-transmit the codes
