nooo heater matrix

Post by davethewheel »

my xantia 2.1td has been fine not loosing any water untill i changed the water and anti freeze and just lately it's been using a bit of water, no signs of any leaks untill i checked the carpet on the passenger side which feels sticky and when i tasted it you guessed it anti freeze, so it looks like i'm going to have do that realy nice job and replace it, what i'm most worried about is snapping the pipe of that goes into the matrix, is it just a case of getting the car warm and pulling it and hoping for the best :)
also gsf just list a matrix for non aircon cars are they not all the same?

Hi Davethe wheel,

The matrix are the same, good luck with the job  Worth checking the www.citroen-pr.net site to confirm same.

Already done mine and I would describe as not hard but a pain in the neck :!:

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that the matrix is the same on all Xantia's.

As far as the connection pipe, I'd wear a pair of thick leather gardening gloves (hot water!!), then get the engine up to operating temperature so that a degree of pressure is built up within the system in the hope that this pressure will assist by 'pushing' the pipe off/breaking the seal etc.

cheers guys, i had second thoughts that the matrix was leaking as it didn't drip any water for a day but today when i used the heater the screen misted up and there is water dripping inside the passenger footwell again so i've purchased a new matrix and seals and have got my swear box ready for the weekend

Hi davethewheel,

Remember there is a thread on the common fixes about fitting heating matrix to a xantia.

Cheers

this is my car around dinner time this morning

Image

although i wasn't laughing at the time, took me 10hrs from start to finish the worst part of the job was the bolt behind the lhm tank which holds the heater assembly in, also there are pipes from the aircon which go into the back of the heater assembly which stopped me from withdrawing it so i loosened the nut and a load of greenish fluid squirted out is this the refrigerant ?
will that just mean that the car needs a regas or have i done something worse, on inspection i couldn't realy see were the matrix was leaking from it doensn't seem to have rotted away as i cut the pipes at the bottom and they still seem fairly solid there was a bit of a leak on the joint were the 2 pipes are are bolted to the matrix, also 2 of the pipes at the bottom were solid with sediment :)

If it was the refrigerant that came out it would have hissed and turned to gas in a split second, but by the sounds of it yep you will need a regas.

what came out of the pipes did hiss but it looked like lhm, must have been the gas as the aircon isn't working now...it needed a regas anyway, it's not that technical of a job it just takes bloody ages, at least i'll be faster next time i have to do it
