tyre pressure

Post by curly »

Hi can anyone help ? I have a C5 2.2hdi SX just bought it 2 weeks ago (first citroen owned) and when driving at 70 the car has a slight shack I thought it might be the tyre pressure but I cannot find what the pressure should be in the drivers handbook .The car has 2 new tryes on the front which were on the car when I bought it, could the shacking be the wheels out of balance? Does anyone know the tyre pressure for this car

Hi Curly, I have a 2.0l hdi sx it is quite common to have a shaking from the steering wheel at 70. One thing I found out through trial and error was the locking wheel bolts should be at the point of the chevrons inline with the valve stem, 2, tyre pressures are for 205/65/15” tyres are 33psi all round on the estate model.
Hope this helps.

Have you had the wheels balanced since buying the car ?

If not that would be your first port of call....it's not uncommon for a balance weight to fall off a wheel rim putting the wheel out of balance... I've had it happen to me before. Or maybe they just weren't balanced properly in the first place, or have had a puncture repair without being rebalanced.

Tyre pressure wont affect a vibration at a certain speed, but you certainly want the pressures correct. Surely there is a plaque on the edge of the drivers door or near the hinges of the door with the pressures on it ? Every car I've ever seen has one in one of those two places...

I have a vibration at 70 mph on my C5.

I had this once on my Xantia 1.9 Turbod. It was a wheel gone out of balance as the tyre wore down. I had the wheel rebalanced and the vibration went away.

Now, I am having a problem with the tyre pressure sensors on my C5. So, I've swapped my C5 alloys with the alloys off my Xantia Activa. This is to see what the C5 computer says when it realises all the tyre pressure sensors are missing.

The computer said nothing at all.. apart from a feeble little whimper and a message saying "4 tyre pressure sensors missing".

Now, the point of this message is.... with the Activa alloys on my C5 the 70 mph vibration has disapeared. Its really smooth. It even feels a bit more comfortable with the 60mm wall depth on the Activa tyres. It looks good too.

So, different wheels..no vibration tells me that the C5's original alloys are out of balance. So, to cure your vibration problem... have your wheels balanced. My local tyre specialist charges GBP 3.50 per wheel.

Cheap as chips..
