HDI turbo whistle

Post by steelcityuk »

How much noise do HDi's make when coming onto boost? Mine seems to be quite noisy and I think I should be checking the hoses. Does the 110 make more noise than the 90? Also how much more powerful do you think a HDi 110 will/should feel compared to a 1.9 TD?

Thanks.

Steve.

Turbo's seem to be very individual in their noise output, if it has suddenly started making more noise than usual, check the inlet hose and exhaust, otherwise I wouldn't worry.

If it has suddenly started to sound 'quite good' i.e. with a nice loud whistle when you come on boost.... I would get the exhaust checked out for leaks perhaps around the manifold to downpipe joint

yes, i agree, check for a leaks in the exhaust, i had a crack just before my cat before and the turbo's noise was louder, it was getting to the point of annoying, more likely the closer to the engine the hole/crack in the exhaust is the louder the turbo gets, it is louder because of the lack of back pressure on it, so it spins on any pressure.
