please help i have just baught this car for my wife its a vtr 1997 r reg 1.6 it drives lovely but is using petrol like mad we put £20 in it and got 76 mile out of that it is completely standard apart from a peco back box it as just been mot by me at local garage and flown through the emmisions test it also as a misfire when accelerating as if its getting to much fuel then its ok again any ideas plz

Thats definately broken! My g/f's pulls near 200miles out of £20.

Get the ECU codes read first, I'm guessing the air/flow meter or something related.

Hi there, i'm shooting in the dark here.. has this car been fitted with with one of those resistor mods that fools the ecu into injecting more fuel at normal engine temperatures? It was/is a cheap and cheerful performance upgrade that only costs a couple of quid to fit, but sends mpg plummeting !

I agree, for the sake a a few quid get a garage to check it out with their computer, could save you a load of time.

What was the person like that you bought it off??
