I have wondered about this simple two tank system. The only problem I could see is the fuel return. You wouldn't want to return much veg oil to the diesel tank. If you do a lot of running on veg oil and just start and purge with diesel you'll soon have a good veg mix in the diesel tank. I believe an IDI diesel returns quite a bit of fuel to the tank.

You cant do that on a 2.1td as the lucas pump is cack and will eventually die off :(

One reason why im thinking of getting a basic 1.9td or 1.9d xantia with loads of mils on it for £100 or suchlike and running it into the ground on pure veggie...

Yeah with the warmer wrather and a 1.9td bosch pumped XUD engine you can run 100% SVO/WVO(within reason) but as the weather cools it either needs to be thinned out or diluted with some normal diesel. If you thin out with diesel id reccomend the extra few pennies on teh BP Ultimate or Shell Optimax diesel/Diesel Extra as the extra addatives in these should help a lot more and mean you should only need say 6litres per tank full to dilute it well enough in the colder weather. SVO should be fine to about -5 and then it starts to solidify where by -10'c it is a solid...

The only real damage would be the pump would be under strain trying to suck thru fuel and if your glow plugs arent 100% could lead to harder starts on the engine. i warmed the plugs twice even on the hot days here when the engine was stone cold and never had any problems on 100% SVO. kinda why im thinking about getting another banger and running it into the ground on SVO :)

Anyone selling a BX 19tgd or xantia 1.9td for £150 with MOT at all ;)
