Hydraulic pump types

Post by steelcityuk »

Could any members tell me if the pump used on an HDi Hydractive is used on any other models or point me in the right direction for info on the different types used and on what?

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I saw a cheap pump on Ebay and I thought if it was the right type it would be a good buy. The only description is that it came off a S reg 1.9 td.

Oh well.

Just out of interest do the different pumps produce different pressures/flow rates?

My guess is that they differ mostly in mounting and pulley diameter.

They still have to supply the same amount of flow & pressure for powersteering - any model.
Dont know if there are different flow rates for standard/hydractive/activa models.

The pulley diameters accounts for the various average engine working rpm. I.e. diesels would have a smaller pulley to run the pump faster etc. This in turn affects the needed length of the aux belt.

There are only 2 x real differences in the Xantia pump.

1) 6 Piston pump as fitted to the early Xantia using a flow distributor valve in the steering, also refered to as a two pipe pump (1 X rubber and 1 x metal pipe)

2) 6 + 2 Pump, this pump is commonly used on all Xantia's since they got rid of the flow valve and fitted the anti sink system, the 6 x piston portion of the pump is used for the power steering only and the 2 x piston part is used to run the suspension and braking system, this pump is also referred to as the 3 x pipe pump (1 x rubber and 2 x metal pipes)

All of the 3 pipe pumps are the same internally, with the same flow rate and the same pressure 175- max / 2750psi for the suspension and 150- /2200psi for the steering.

The only differences between any of the 3 x pipe pumps is in the way that they are mounted, the pipe angles and the pulley size.

The 2 x pipe pumps were all the same except that petrol cars used a large pulley and diesel cars used a smaller pulley.

So going on that, is you can make it fit, it will work!!

Also, the XM used the 3 x pipe pump on the last run of the range, again the got rid of the flow distributor valve and fitted anti sink to the car.

Slim

Thanks Slim -

Thats what I thought - but had no evidence. Would be silly to have a range of different flowrates - like the old ones on CX & BX.

That's useful info, thanks.

I've missed the pump now unfortunately but I suppose they'll be others. It was only at £10 last time I looked with only 1 bidder.
