MOT

Post by JohnD »

I took our third car, the Xsara, for it's MOT this morning. I'd previously given it new discs and pads, back and front, an oil and filter change, and for several weeks, a good dosing of Redex in the tank. Daughter does a 50 mile commute in it every day, so it does get a thrashing, but I was still disappointed to find that it just scraped a pass with 2.96. I'm really puzzled. Any ideas?

Mine past this morning with 0.43(max 1.50) whatever that means. Thrashed it the night before on the way home, but it was barely warm when it went for MOT, the needle had only just lifted. I did this as i didn't want my ABS fault to appear, it comes on after a few miles

Yes the engine was hot. The assistant put the thermometer into the dipstick hole and I watched the temp rise to 80C. And as usual, I drove in 3rd gear all the way to the garage. Of course, it did a lot of running at tick-over speed during the test. The fuel filter and air filter were changed less than 5000 miles ago.

Mileage is just under 50K and yes, it starts and runs normally. As for fuel consumption, I don't know. I don't have to fill the tank!
