Mint condition, 6 disc clarion changer, 4 michelin tyres, just had new head gasket and full service inc water pump, tensioner pulley and cam belt, mot jan 07, air con, climate control, exhaust with reciept for warranty for three years, etc I have a number of parts to sell with it including a new temp sensor for the climate control (it works fine, the wife was just going into overdrive), power steering fluid, gear box oil, some left over gaskets,
It's better to get it fixed. I'd try and locate a gearbox speacialists and find out what they think. I'd suspect you could get it recon'd for around £350-£400. Failing that I'll give you £650 for it.

Hi there..No disrespect but just take your car to Citroen specialist and have him/her have a look at it.

Dont throw away anymore money..If you have a faulty box it would be unusual.
It could be a multitude of things and hopefully you can be back on the road soon with little outlay..Worst case senario you need a second hand box fitting ?

I'd always say sort it yourself but when you talk about selling up its always time to hand it over and save the pain.
Cheers

i have done nothing but spend on it. There can't be much else to go wrong. It still drives fantastic, but just has a noise.
Its the brother in law that does all my mechanic work, and he doesn't want to do the gearbox/clutch.
I paid £5000 two year ago, and i know its worth nought really :(

Some of the bigger breakers will supply and fit a second-hand box very reasonably.
It might be worth asking around.

John,
Don't do anything silly and sell the car as it is just now!!!
Go to a couple of independent garages and try to find out what is wrong. You never know it might not be as expensive as you think.

Howie

You're probably best off taking it to a Gearbox specialist.

Given that the noise is in all gears, but only on over-run it is almost guaranteed to be a failed endfloat washer, a loose circlip, or possibly a partially failed bearing. All of which are cheap components, it's just the labour needed to get to it.

Find someone who is well versed in stripping a gearbox, and the labour will be less, as he'll be able to do it faster. Might even be able to do it in situ.

Was there any resolution to this thread as I have an almost identical problem on my 04 xsara Picasso 2.0 diesel. To say I'm panicking would be an understatement!

Picasso HDi uses a different box that is (generally) very tough. Ours ate wheel bearings for fun though, so I would check there first. What are the symptoms?

Pretty much the same as described by the op. Drives fine, no slipping of clutch evident as yet gears seem to go in OK. I noticed it the other night and my first instinct was that I hadn't got it in gear properly (new boots on!) but I had. Then it started making a sort of grinding noise on lifting off the throttle. I'm a little scared of driving it any further but I obviously will have to in order to check things based on ideas people may come up with hence my search through hundreds of different forum posts trying to narrow things down before I'm asked to grab my ankles by a main dealer!! Thanks for replying, I don't feel quite so alone in my search for answers now lol
