Driveshaft Roller bearings

Post by KP »

Our current xantia shed some of its CV boot a few days ago and ive found the cause as well :(

Basically i need a full set of new bearings that go on the gearbox end of the passenger side driveshaft :(

Does anyone know if GSF do these or if its a Citroen only part and if so whats the part number for them and approximate price??

Any helpfull tips on fitting them would be appreciated as well :)

Thanks,
Will

Sorry my ignorance Will -

WOT bearings ?

You can positively NOT get any bearings internal to driveaxle CV joints. Its either a new joint or a new complete axle. Once the CV joint gaiter has been open to surroundings during drive - nobody will warrant any repair job or parts to the joint - because of any grit/water ingress to the CV joint during drive. Its that serious to drive with a defective CV joint gaiter ...

If obtainable seperately they will be dealer only parts, but breakers yards are full of them and more often than not very easily to get at, since the engine and box is usually out of the way.

Fitting them is a cake walk just grease them well up to stop them falling out, IIRC there are about thirty of the little buggers, watch for the other two rollers sliding off while you're about it.

Its always hard to find info on parts fitting across various models - as thats not the way you can look up the info in Citroen parts lists online.
A brief browsing shows that none of the BX driveshafts have the same part no's as the Xantia driveshafts.

The differences that are likely to appear are :
1) number of splines on shaft at either end - plus the splines for the CV joint fitting on the shaft (thats 3 different splines)
2) the overall lenght of the driveshaft

Someone out there may by sheer coincedence have tried a BX on a Xantia - or vice-versa.

Ive seen some new ones on ebay and the pass side looks just right as im not bothered about drivers side at all :) just the passenger side so it makes it easier but ive emailed some breakers for a quote for one as well :)

How much should i be looking at for a used shaft?? Pardon the term :D

Hi Anders,

I think he means the driveshaft carrier bearing ??

You should be able to buy this from the local bearing suppliers if you take in the old bearing for them to measure up :)

and of course, lots of old Citroens, slowly rusting away in pieces ;)

Do I have a language problem here ?

http://www.citroen-pr.net/catalogues/il ... 711150.gif

If we are talking the right hand (UK drivers) side long driveaxle support bearing (item 6 in above schematic) on the engine block - then stop your search.
This bearing is an industri standard bearing - fitting all PSA's : 6006 ZZ (code ZZ = dust covers)

My guess this bearing can be found at some £5 in machinery shops
However the bearing locator clamp ring (item 7 in above schematic) must be purchased at Citroen (or Peugeot) :
3248.08 DRIVE SHAFT BUSH Dkr95,90

Fits all PSA transversal engines with a support bearing for RHS drive axle.

KP :
Please refer to the schematic above which item you are talking about ?

Will has allready stated passenger side shaft, no support bearing there.
What he's on about are the needle bearings for the rollers on the triax yoke.

Both sides drive axles are shown on the schematic.
The long RHS one is item 2 - only its not shown in its full shaft length. But you can clearly see the stepped part of the shaft where the support bearings fits.

I'm old & ballheaded  - still dont have a clue on what you mean

Ah dont worry about it Anders i see it now.

Basically in the picture directly above the number '5' there is a CVboot and some kind of cylinderical block. the bearings im on about are in that block part...

Im trying to source a used shaft thats hopefully like the one in the pici with all the bits on it :)
