I owned an M reg XM 2.5td Exclusive many years ago, bought it as demo +1 owner from paul Johnson (XM centre) with 21K on the clock and didnt sell it till it had 323k on the clock, it was still running perfectly and seemed just as powerfull as the day i bought it, it was a very very nice car, powerful and smooth and very quiet inside with every toy possible M778 SAB, if you see it, let me know, i'd be interested to know if its still running !

I bought myself a M reg BMW 325TDS SE about 4 years ago with 102K on the clock, it now has 155K on the clocks and i wish i had never bought it, yes the noise the engine makes is much nicer that the citroen and it is very slightly faster than my XM, but it is a terribly uncomfortable car to drive for more than 2 hours, and its very sparse inside, nothing comes as standard and it is rather noisey inside too, I still have this car on my front lawn on SORN as i cant be bothered to sell it yet !, it reg is VIA 69 and is now worth more than the car is !!

Given the choice of an XM 2.5TD or a BMW 2.5TDS, i would leap at the XM every time, the engine and car are so much more refined and just nicer in every way, and dare i say it, but the citroen was a mose solid and better put together car !!

Doesn't look like it is!!! It hasn't had road tax on it since 1st July 2002 anyway.

Do any of the desiel citreons with this engine have a 6speed box? I haven't come across any pugs that do. People keep suggesting the 306gti6 but we all know that wont work!
The newer C5 has a six speeder. I know my Xantia HDI would have managed an extra cog. The 2.1 with its similar characteristics would also be ideal. perhaps an interesting project for someone like deian?

I had to replace the gearbox in my 1.9 xantia last year and I fitted a box from a hdi 306. I'd like to have the pump tweaked for better driveability however, 90mph now comes in at a little over 3000 rpm. :D
