Xantia Gearbox Oil Seal/Vibration/C5

Post by hippy »

Have 2 leaks from '97 Xantia 2.1TD. The main input shaft oil seal is leaking (oil is clear and has 'that' smell..mmm)Have decided to get this fixed by Citoen Specialist (Softride in essex - v reasonable/friendly. Car has done 87K which is not alot for an ouil seal to go in my experience (BX-177K and not a drop). My concern that there is a vibration under acceleration from approx 1500 - 2000 rpm. Does anyone know what this could be and if it could contribute to premature failure of oil seal? (In its history the crankshaft oil seal was replaced at around 35K)
I also have a heater matrix leak which I understand involves removing the dash amongst other things. I am relunctant to pay someone to do this as I am practical and sure I could do it OK but can anyone who's done this really say the hassle is worth it for a few hundred quid?
Finally, anyone got a C5? How is it? Does the suspension feel carpet ride like?

Hmm leaking seal and a vibration, could be input shaft bearing causing both.
Not done the Xantia matrix, and don't want to, touch wood, done a ZX and a fiesta, none of them are much fun to do, but do what you can yourself, and what you can't do, then pay someone to do it.
