Xantia TD vacuum pump

Post by NiSk »

Hi!
I'm trying to get hold of a vacuum pump (electric) for my '98 XM 2.5TD. Since there are very few of these at breakers, I was wondering if any of the Xantias had electric vacuum pumps? (since there are a lot more of these at the breakers!)

I have an old ('93) XM TD12 (2.1 l) that I crashed which I use for spares, and that had an identical electric pump to my '98 2.5. But it was as bad inside as the newer one (not surprising after 560 000 km i suppose). So I wondered if any of teh 2.1 diesekl Xantias (which had the same engine) have electic vacuum pumps.

On the 1.9TDs it provides suck for the fast idle and EGR mechanisms. Not electric though, it's driven off the end of the camshaft.

Only on later 1.9 TDs with the EGR and Catalyst! My '97 has it but my '94 does not, I think this came in late '96. No doubt the HDIs will also have something similar.

It surprised me as well, apparantly on the later TD12 it supplies vacuum for the EGR valve, the wastegate actuator and a butterfly in the inlet air plenum that assists the EGR function. If it doesn't work, you get very poor performace from the engine, since it's sucking exhaust gases all the time!

I know that some TD's have a mechanical pump, but I was curious about the later 2.1's and possibly even the HDI version. Has anyone got the illustrated parts list for the Xantia? (I have it for the series I and II XM).
