hi all wonder if any one would no i had the timeing belt and 2 TENSIONERs and a new water pump fitted about 2 months ago also a new belt fitted as well for the steering and air condion but i did not have a new TENSIONER fitted at the time i notice that when the engine gets warm i gets huming sound it seems to go when i rev the engine up it is only there when the engine is ticking over after a run would that noise be from the TENSIONER that was not fitted the noise seems to be coming from there also is there only 1 TENSIONER fitted to the power sterring and air cond thanks for any one that can help hope my spelling is ok thanks again 1939

There's no automatic tensioner on these engines, so could your noise be caused by the belt being over-tight?

I have seen somewhere, Honestjohns I think, that either the tensioner or idler wheel is rubber covered and starts de-laminating and should be replaced at the same time as the timing belt.

thanks JohnD and rory_perrett for your help yes it looks like it could be that i wish i had changed them now as well while i had the timeing belt done thats what i gets for cutting corners dont no how to go about changeing them so it looks like i have to go back to the chap that done the timeing belt for me again as there is no work shop books for this model thanks again for every ones help if any one got a photo of the front of the hdi engine would be nice to have a quick look to see if i could do it my self i under stand there is 3 tensioners on this model looks like a night mare to do it any was thanks every one for your help 1939

No! there's only one tensioner pulley. The other similar sized pulleys are the water pump pulley and the idler pulley.

Always wise to change tensioners and idlers when doing the belt. Learnt from experience that it is a false economy not to. Price of full kit is generally cheaper than buying parts individually and you'll have piece of mind that all parts will last the distance until the next change is due.
