xantia suspension

Post by xxaannttiiaammaann »

hi every1 the problem i have is similar to the one posted further down the forum but slightly different.the car is a m reg 95 1.9 td lx xantia non hdi non hydroactive 140,000 on the clock.a few weeks ago the front susp started to get a bit bouncy and not nice to drive hitting a pothole would throw the car of line and bounce like you were at sea i changed the front spheres with new from gsf part no N45332 i have double checked and told these are correct and the no is correct on the sphere itself procedure was suspension on lowest undo accumlator screw let out pressure remove spheres inc accumulator sphere fit supplied seals fit new spheres start engine raise to highest turn steering from side to side several times raise and lower several times top up fluid and lower to normal height.however ride is very slightly better but is like driving on cobbles every ding and ripple is felt and it rolls like a 2cv at the front when cornering understeers oversteers i can push the front corners right down and they bounce up once and settle. when starting and idling the front fidgets a bit untill it finds a height its happy only takes a few secs which seems to be correct height drop links have been replaced recently no fluid loss no bubbles.the only thing i can say is when i undid the accumulator screw i undid it 2 far and it came off and the ballbearing fell out but i put this back in.any ideas....struts?no pressure to struts?any suggestions woulb be gratefully received.sorry bout the length of this but i needed to tell everything thank

Apologies if this sounds obvious or you've already checked, but is the plastic height corrector clip still intact/in place?

Is the ride height correct? if not it may be hitting the bump stops. The drive shafts and suspension arms should be about level, parallel with the road and you should be able to 'bounce' the suspension 4" - 6". The tyres will also have a marked effect on the ride, are they over inflated or lacking tread?

sorry for the delay in replying been busy the height is correct and the plastic clip is still intact thanks anyway.the car has today been to a citroen specialist who have checked the whole suspension over bushes joints etc and found no probs.the only 2 things found were the power steering pump leaking and the accumulator valve is leaking like a sieve....question....if these componants are leaking then the pressure in the system i would imagine is not as it should be... correct?would this not have the effect of making the front end roll and generally feel floppy and not absorb lumps and bumps etc as it should the rear is fine i presume the rear has a seperate accumulator valve.any suggestions as to this theory would be appreciated

if the power steering pump (hydraulic pump) was leaking then maybe air would be getting into the system, this can cause a crashy ride too.

If I went to a Citroen Specialist who couldnt find a problem but the pump and acc' valve were leaking then I would go somewhere else...
