C5 trip computer

Post by brian.r.uk »

hi all
i have a 2002 C5 2.0hdi sx.yesterday on the way back from a long run i was checking the fuel consumption on the trip computer when it locked up when i got to "overspeed on" pushing the end of the wiper stalk did nothing.when i got home i disconnected and reconnected the battery which cleared the trip and returned it to time date and radio readout but pushing the end of the wiper stalk still does nothing.have any of you experts out there any ideas.i suspect the button on the end of the wiper stalk but one of you may have come across this before.sorry this is long winded but i tried to write down all the info i could.
thanks in advance brian.

Hi Brian, its the COM2000 unit that has failed. This sits behind the steering wheel and controls all manner of things, mine did exactly the same as yours. Check whether the remote window opening/closing feature works, mine does but only on the rear windows, it stopped working the same time as the button but maybe a coincidence. The unit is sealed so the whole thing has to be replaced. I was under the impression it was a main dealer only job as I would have thought the unit needs coding to the car but someone on here said this is not the case. It would be interesting to get a price for the unit as it does seem easy to replace. I booked mine into the dealer on 3 seperate occasions but gave up after I was told for the third time they had no record of me booking the car in  and Citroen wonder why the public have such a poor opinion on their dealer network.

Take the car to you Citroen dealer.

PSA Peugeot Citroen held there hands up & have been replacing COMM 2000 units FREE because of the s**t design fault.

Originally they said any car up to 4 years from the date of registration BUT cars older then 4 years older have had new COMM 2000s FOC to keep the customer happy too, Speak nicely to your dealer & you might get it fixed for FREE.

The COMM 2000 unit is the light & wiper stalks as one big lump, It also houses the airbag & horn wiring & some other electronic bits that are important to the cars CAN system.

The airbag & steering wheel have to come off to replace it, Less then 30 minutes for a main dealer, Some can knock them out in under 10 minutes

i've tried two citroen main agents in birmingham and both say they wouldn't replace unit f.o.c. cost would be about 180 for part and 60 for labour.also the front windows not working off remote has nothing to do with it they just need reseting.
thanks for all the replies.

My C5 has been to a Cit main dealer in Manchester. The cruise control doesn't work. They are waiting for a part from France so they can replace the cruise control ECU. Are they talking about the COM2000 unit ?
Cheers, Kev

The cruise control doesent have its own ECU,its controlled by the injection ECU.the Com2000 just sends the on/off & speed comands to it.

C5 Trip Computer

Post by Kursaal Flyer »

That's interesting stuff. I got my first C5 (HDI 110 SX) two weeks ago. Pushing the end of the wiper stalk does not get me to the trip computer either. Also pulling it forward does not activate the screen washer, and occasionaly when using the indicator stalk to turn right it does not operate.

Therefore I am suspecting I too have a dodgey comm2000 unit.
I've booked it into a Cit main dealer for a service next Wednesday and mentioned that apparently Citroen UK may replace these units f.o.c. on cars out of warranty.

They said they had no knowledge of this and would look into it and call me back. This they did with the response that I'd have to pay the bill and they'd put in a 'concessionary claim' to Citroen but don't hold out much hope due to the age and mileage of the car (Nov 2001, 85,000miles.)

Haven't been quoted a price yet but I'll keep you all posted on what happens next week.

Times like this I miss my old 2CV

Regards
John J.
