Boot lock and rear wiper fixed.

Post by user_3150 »

Replaced the boot lock solenoid with a Maplins equivalent about £8. Just needed to re drill the holes in the boot to align with the new switch a surprisingly easy job. If anyone wants More in depth procedure description I can do one. Also took the boot wiper relay out to replace. Turns out to be quite difficult to get hold of one. Anyway I got hold of a specialist car electronics place and whilst on the phone I was fiddling with the relay and discovered 3 dry joints on the PCB. Resoldered them and now all is good. It was a Siemens relay so surprised with the poor build quality. Quite chuffed with myself. I got a price from Citroen for the relay £35 and about the same for the boot lock solenoid so sorting it out myself cost me 3 hours of my time and no more than £10 in parts. 8) :D

Alec,

If you could do an 'in depth' of how you changed the boot solenoid, including Maplin part number, then I would be interested. As my Xantia is only normally used at weekends (I use the train to work) the solenoid does not always lock or unlock the boot. If it needs changing then I would prefer to do it in the summer when it is less cold and marginally drier.

That is why I put up with mine all winter waiting for good weather  . I will put up a more in depth post soon. I'm a bit busy today though. :)

OK Rich. First thing is to have some white spirit handy for removing the plastic liner. Remove the boot door card. You may find a cable running through the back of it just unclip either end in the light clusters. Remove the right hand side (offside) of the plastic liner being careful not to get covered in the black tar that holds it in place (hence the white spirit) or it goes onto everything you touch. You will see the lock solenoid attached to the locking mechanism. Remove the solenoid. The new solenoid fixing holes are the same distance apart but the new ones are more to the middle of the solenoid. Fit the unit to the locking bar and have a fiddle about pulling and pushing the actuator to get the best position for the new holes that need drilling. I found about 5mm towards the hinge end of the boot and about 2-3mm to the left (all taken as if observing from outside looking up at the boot door). Fix the unit in place then cut the wires off the plug and fit the female bullets and push them onto the male bullets of the unit. Don't worry if the boot locks/unlocks the wrong way around just swap the wires over. I managed to get most of the plastic liner to re stick but I did use some silicon in places. Do a search here and you should find plenty about it. Otherwise its just a case of refitting everything. Oh the solenoid is a YD79L 2 wire actuator from maplins. I also got the bullet connectors from them as well. Hope this is in depth enough and on the same note I hope it isn't too obvious in places. Good luck Alec

Alec,

Thanks for the info. The boot is OK at the moment but I will get the bits and fit them as-and-when (as required and when it is raining)
