Solid Rear End

Post by fatbugger »

Hi All
I need help (or so my wife and friends say)
T reg Citroen Xsara 19.D. Rear suspension has gone rock solid. Have been told it could be rear swinging arms that have seized? Are these fixable or is it much of a job to replace? Sounds horrendously expensive.
Any advice would be most welcome

Yeah, sounds like one of both of the trailing arm bearings has seized - never heard of it before - have you parked it in the sea or something?? Easy way out is going to be to fit another subframe. It's basically the same for the ZX, 306 and Xsara, so getting another one shouldn't be too hard - just make sure it's not off a lowered car, and it's right for hatch/estate, and is fitted with the right brakes. Fit new mounts whilst it's out! Should be DIY-able in a day.

Can't see a reply as such to that, :? but the answer is no.
The Xsara has only ever had metal springs and shock absorbers.

Not quite -
Its a 3 torsion bars design - 1 for suspension each side - and 1 acting as ARB. To me it looks pretty jobby to replace the bearings.
