Spoke to Valeo technical support today, the 4 piece C5 HDI 110 clutch with solid flywheel is available. It is listed in the current 2006 catalogue so any parts supplier should be able to get it.

Part number 835001 cost £212 + vat at my usual supplier.

ebod, what is the name of the man who did your clutch?

thanks.

Look a bit closer at the clutch, its not a normal clutch.... The cover plate is pretty normal looking but look at the friction plate..... No springs! Thats the job of the DMF on these types of systems.

But presumably if you get a four part kit from Valeo, you get a solid flywheel and a clutch plate with springs.

Yes, the 2.2 will have a DM flywheel.

I believe the DM flywheels don't always exert enough pressure to prevent slippage, therefore the juddering I am beginning to feel is probably linked.

I will be getting the entire clutch assembly replaced with the Valeo 4 piece kit and solid flywheel.

6 hours labour makes it expensive though!

This month's Car Mechanics magazine is running an article on DMF and how they work.

RichardW wrote:It's not the clutch that's at fault, it's the flywheel, as you note - the clutch is standard. The flywheel's dual-mass - this means that instead of being machined out of one solid piece of cast iron, it's made out of two different metals, bonded together with a rubber sandwich. I think this is supposed to help damp out vibrations as the drive is taken up. However, similar to the rubber bonded crankshaft pulley, they eventually fall apart  When this happens, the central part stays bolted to the crank shaft, whilst the outer part exits stage left via the bellhousing and usually the radiator, and probably smashing the input shaft as well. Cue new clutch, flywheel, radiator and exchange gearbox  However, there does appear to be a warning, and that is a small squeak heard on starting and stopping the engine, and possibly on taking up the drive. So you probably end up replacing the clutch long before it's really worn out, since you need to replace the flywheel as its debonding. DM flywheels are expensinve though - £300 + - alhough I believe LUK do a replacement clutch / flywheel kit with a solid flywheel. In the event of clutch replacement because it is worn out, the DM flywheel should be replaced as a matter of course. Typical life seems to be in the range 75-100k - same as the crank pulley!
i had a vauxhall carlton 2.3 td and they had a flywheel with the rubber mounting in the middle

the only warning i had of a problem was a slight slip whilst pulling away a week before it went

when it went symptons were identical to a clutch failure....

took me and every mate i could find two months to finally suss out it was the flywheel (after changing the clutch, gearbox and anything else we could think it might be) you just dont think anyone would put in a two part flywheel...

but it didnt destroy anything all that was happening was the inner part of the flywheel was spinning within the outer....

unbelievably stupid design, couldnt get a replacement anywhere and ended up welding it up.......

dont know if that helps but (as you can guess) its still a sore point with me

Had the whole lot replaced with the solid flywheel Valeo kit. The clutch is a lot lighter now, the vibration at idle as disappeared and no slippage, but.. there is a little more harshness when under hard acceleration.

http://www.luk.de/content.luk.de/en/pro ... zms_sv.jsp is an article pushing the benefits of the DMF.

I'd recommend a solid flywheel replacement to anyone with a C5.

I've check on citroën-Pr.net, both C5 and Xantia MKII ( M.Y.. 2000). The references are different.
Xantia - 0532 H1
C5 - 0532 LO (DM flywheel)

What can we conclude? You have a cheaper and simpler flywheel than us, C5 owners :P

Cheers!
