This question comes up from time to time, concerning various engines. The consensus seems to be that it would be impossible to use these tools with most engines in situ and dealers just have them for show. It probably is that important on the V6 Cavalier because these engines have an issue with one of the pulleys breaking up.stevieb wrote:Does anybody's Cit manuals suggest that the belt be tensioned with an "electronic tensioner"?
The Pug manuals suggest electronic tensioning on many of the 4-cylinder engines, so I guess something similar on V6's.
My cousin had a V6 Cavalier, and his main dealer mate fitted the belt as a cash-in-hand job, but still took the car in to work to tension the belt on the electronic device.
Is it really that important...???
It would certainly explain the stupid pricing.
I have the official Ford instructions for the 1.8D engine, where fitting is so critical that Ford provide a manual with the belts, and they don't say anything about special tensioning equipment.
