Leaking flexi-hose

Post by LeeDJC »

One of my front brake flexi-hoses is leaking at the caliper end. I've tried tightening it, but that hasn't helped. Is there a washer or something similar in there that needs replacing? or will it need a new hose?

Careful here !

The hose screws into an alloy caliper body - its perfectly possible to over-tighten the hose ruining the threads - and then its a new caliper AND a new hose.

There is no seal ring - its a "standard" brake pipe flared (coned) fitting by torque - hence the fine thread.

I didn't over-tighten it - thank goodness! I know over tightened hoses etc tend to not be a good thing!

So it's a replacement hose then?

Yes -

Careful inspect old hose and caliper port to ensure it is the hose at fault. Its defo no fun over-looking a problem on the front brake hydraulics

OK - thanks!

I've got the car going into a local garage to change a lower ball joint next week - as I haven't got the time, or patience (!!!!) to change it. I'll get them to check it over then.
