After many months of trying to sort out my constantly on abs light I've finally sorted it. It ended up being the abs relay (which the guy at the citroen dealer told me it never is).
Thanks to everybody who has offered advice.
ABS sorted at last

Many years ago when I was starting my apprenticeship, an old mechanic showed me a trick that I carried right through my working life.
Somebody would bring something in for repair with the memorable quote "It's not the *such & such* it's already been checked & it's OK!!!"
The old grease monkey would say as they left, "well this should be an easy fix....it'll be the * such & such*" which at first left me dumbfounded as he'd already been told that it was OK. As time went on I followed his example & found he was rarely wrong.
Somethings seem to be prone to intermittent problems whilst others can be almost right but play up merry hell when put under load. I still follow this philosophy to this day; recently you may have seen I was insistent on a H/C being faulty & everyone else taking it out of the equation because it was supposedly OK. I still haven't been proven wrong on that one....or right either.
It goes to prove though, that when troubleshooting, there are no shortcuts regardless of how sure anyone may be of any component.
Good on you...great to see it was found.

Wise words indeed Alan!
The other day, my son's F**d Escort had a misfire. The plugs were almost brand new. I thought, "It won't be the plugs, but just to show him the right way to do things, we'll start at the beginning...."
Sure enough, one of the plugs had a crack down the porcelain and it was tracking down it.
Like you say, always start with the obvious, even if you've already discounted it! Does that make sense?
