guys, after 2 days owning my 98 xantia V6 a horrible thing has happened...
in a very residential neighbourhood, my alarm is freely going off
the hazard lights are not flashing. I have disconnected the battery tonight, and all is quiet.. but my confiedence is ruined with reference to alarms.. I will be awake any nights the battery is connected, wondering if it will go off...
how can I quickly remove the siren from the system, either permanently or in an emergency?
what is likely to be causing this misguided activation?
thanks
John

First things first.... lock your car with the key not the remote.... this means that the alarm is not armed.

In my Xantia Handbook mode...
"Switching off the siren.
To neutralise the siren so that it will not sound, open the bonnet, lift the cap off the lock situated below the air inlet grille, introduce and turn the vehicle key. The detection functions will still operate, but the siren will not operate.
Do not forget to neutralise the siren should the vehicle battery be disconnected.
If your vehicle is fitted with deadlocks, the alarm is armed by deadlocking the vehicle with the remote control."
Got that!?

Mine has the same trouble, but I'm pretty sure it's the ultrasonics as if you disarm them the siren stays quiet. A bit of a pain to change them so I've left it until I can figure out a way to find out is it's the transmitter or receiver that's duff to save having to change them both.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

2 things..
when mine went off last night, it didnt activate the flashers, and couldnt be turned off with the button on key (or opening the car or starting it up)
And, if i try to disable the ultrasonic sensors, according to my manual, and tests, it only happens once. i.e i have to disable them every time i leave the car
hmmm

Xantia alarn going off randomly when set.
Hi all.
I do not know if I have a cure for your alarm going off.
Mine randomly did the same till I replaced the main car battery due to low volts off charge, even though its green indicator said it was O.K
That was two months ago and so far so good.

WARNING:
If it only seems to be when outside the house that the alarm goes off randomly, it may not be false alarms, but someone who is after your car.
They used to do this ages ago - make the alarms go off for a while until the owner gets fedup and disables the alarm - then they'll have either the contents or the car away !
On the other hand, my dad's Xantia used to go off every now and again - we found that by setting the vents to face level, and turning off the face-level vents, it solved the problem !
Mat.
