BX front strut repair kit
can anyone tell me where I can obtain a CITROEN BX FRONT STRUT REPAIR KIT Part No-95 650 941 or Part No-95 597 221
This is a question that has been sorted out a few times and is an ongoing mystery.
Apparently it can be bought from Andyspares/GSF but from what I hear, every time somone tries, they get hit with the wall of silence due to all & sundry denying that it either exists or that they stock it. If however, you produce the individual numbers, it then is usually a case of the person serving you getting halfway through & then announcing that "You'd be better off just buying this kit; it's got all of the parts in it that you need!!" So I am presuming that Andys/GSF do stock it but possibly under a different number or as a kit associated to these parts or listed under another name.
Anyway, as lifted from another site, here's the parts list.

Front Suspension Cylinder: RP 95 650 942
Slide Bearing: 96 004 372
Cylinder Seal: 95 597 221
o-Ring at sphere mount block: 24 826 009
leak back hose:95 622 818

BTW, parts prices ex Andys/GSF should also mean that you won't have to hold someone for ransome to pay for the parts. This may not be the case if you resort to a main dealer. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

As far as I am aware, we have not stocked the front strut repair kit for some years, I have just checked the archive on our old computer system that we stopped using in April 2000 and its not listed on that either.
As the price of Genuine complete front struts has become more reasonable over the years, we have therefore only offered the complete strut itself.

This is a mystery subject as there have been plenty of instances related on various boards as I described.
Just out of interests sake, how do the part numbers stack up against what Andys keep in stock & for my own curiosity, what price are are struts these days, as it seems to be a BX bogey?

Alan,
Genuine Citroen front struts 95650942 are £87 GBP plus VAT (in EU) ready to fit including a new return pipe and clip!!
In my 7 years at the company, I cannot recall offering the front strut repair kit, and as far as I know its only ever been available from Citroen, or Pleides who also offer a recon front strut.
The reason that we only supply new front struts is one of those "no hassle factors" really. Its a new Citroen warranted part that will work straight away. The cost is not really that bad for such a thing, although in the case of a "marginal" BX it may tip it over the edge I suppose.
I often used to find when stripping BX front struts down that the metal cylinder was pitted. Changing seals is not a lot of help in this case.
In conclusion, if you want to recon front struts, then buy the parts from a Citroen dealer, or Pleides I would say.
I have "no beef" in this case I am just advising the company's point of view which as you know is not always my own.
