Bird in cooling fans...

Post by deian »

Today I was cleaning my bonnet catches, so i took the panel to get to the front of the catches, so while i was down there i found a big bird wedged between one of the fans and my intercooler, couldn't find the head.

Maybe you guys should check yours too.

Anyway, after much engine idling, the fans never came on! We're talking more than 20 minutes here. I guess thats a good thing.

poor birdie ... RIP

Now - you dont want your poor Xantia engine HG follow the poor birdie ...
I'm a bit concerned your Xantia's fans did not come on at low speed after 20min's of idling.

Check the coolant level. Then try play with the acc after a few minutes warm-up - to make the engine get hot. The normal situation is the fans should come on at low speed after some 10-20mins idling.

The temp gauge didn't go over 90 though! The radiator was always hot to the touch, but not enough to burn my hands on.

The bird could have been there for a long time, maybe since the early days!

Something else I noticed too, a little triangle box between the cooling fans, and i always open things up to see, so i did, 3 relays! 3? one for each fan, and the other one? all the same type of relays too.
