ABS ECU numbers

following an unsuccessful attempt to fit a "used" abs ecu unit a quick question -
does anyone know what the relevant numbers on the ecu abs unit are when trying to identify a replacement unit ?
I have
10.0943-0203.4
6AS2564A00
*7SM4E84A42*

and on the other side
96.12.78.36.80 (on a blue label)
with
10.0202-0059.4 (same blue label

every unit I kook at although looking the same (case etc) doesnt seem to have exactly the same combination of numbers

Right - we guess its a '94 ZX 1.9TD vsx then.
- though I believe it should be a Xantia :wink:

Your Xantia TD engine code would be XUD9TE and use the following ABS units :
95.667.797 BRAKE HYD BLOCK
4542.58 CALCULATOR (ECU)
These are the ABS units found in most PhaseI (pre-'98 ) variants.

These Xantia models have a special ABS unit fitted :
- INJECTION ES9J4
- TURBO INJECTION XU10J2TE AND 5 DOOR SALOON AND WITH ABS BRAKES
- TURBO DIESEL XUD11BTE AND 5 DOOR SALOON AND WITH ABS BRAKES
- 5 DOOR ESTATE AND WITH ABS BRAKES
4541.30 BRAKE HYD BLOCK
4542.59 CALCULATOR (ECU)

If you know your replacement ABS units is NOT from the special list above - it should work. If none of your ABS ECU units will work - I suggest you start suspect other components in your ABS system.

BTW : part numbers above are Citroen part stock no's.

Thanks for that - you are spot on the car is an Xantia - I have checked the sensor reading via a multi meter and the resistance readings are ok (as per details from the forum) and all the fuses appear ok what other parts of the system are likely to cause the dashboard light to stay on - what have I missed - all on the forum suggest the only thing which will cause the problem if the sensors are ok is the abs ecu - is this right ?

ABS system comprises of the sensors, the ECU, the valve block and the associated wiring, as well as the brake light switch which causes it to change from its system monitoring to the active stage when its looking for a skid.

The valve blocks seem to be a number of solenoid valves and should actually be quite easy to check for continuity if the circuit is known. It may even be possible to work out - I think there are 4 channels (circuits) on the Xantia (BX has 3, - back wheels share one).

The brake light switch may or may not be in the checking circuit - I don't think my BX puts the light on if I start it with my foot on the brake - and while when the switch failed I knew I had no ABS (as there was nothing to operate it) I don't recall the light being on.

The wiring is also vital - are all the plugs clean and in place and fully home? Do any of the wires go through the corrosion prone loom behind the front bumper? (Unlikely)

Interestingly I can't recall anyone saying that they have had trouble with the valve blocks on any car.

pretty sure the ECU side has a diagnostic socket?

Dont forget to check the insturment panel earths & the earth connections on the rear light units, If these are faulty then the ABS warning light will be stuck on :wink:
