Nice one f00lzz, that's fine; this point did come across in the previous posts.

I'm just stating a point that is worth being aware of. SOME Citroen autos DO have a nasty habit of losing forward with their primary drive 'band' letting 'go' and the duff Hull car was/is a cause for concern re autobox reliability. The age/mileage of the cars I'm aware of problems with are well ahead of the age/mileage on a later V6 Exclusive and it is a car I've not had any personal dealings with, to be up on the box make/spec/reliability etc.

As I said, I'm not wishing ill on anyone. Just, the ZF ones aren't worth diddly, that's my main point. Seems Citroen must've seen sense and sourced an alternative supplier with the later autoadaptive boxes then?

Not sure about the manufacturer of the newer type of box... but my experience with box is driver/owner only... I like them, it/they have performed faultlessly. 8)

The V6 Xantias on ebay always sound interesting. I regularly look into their details.

But, one on ebay right now was asked about economy and reported that he averages 24 mpg. Does that sound typical of the V6.

I only get 25 mpg in my Activa. If it weren't for the fact that my Activa is such a pleasure to drive I think 25 mpg would drive me crazy. 24 mpg in a V6 doesn't sound appealing. Although, as the owner points out, the car has nearly 200 bhp and does over 140 mph. Add the comfort and handling and I suppose I could live with 24 mpg too.

So, what do you V6 owners get as mpg ?
Cheers, Kev

Yep 25 mpg is typical... but I dispute the performance figure of 140mph..that is extremely conservative... I have seen 155mph on both mine easily (confirmed on my latest one as 153mph by sat nav). Also the quoted 0 - 60mph of 8.3 secs is closer to 7.5secs.... but who cares anyway.... 20 mpg /24 or 30mpg ...... 120mph 140 or 160 ........

It's a bloody lovely drive

Aren't the ZF auto boxes made by Getrag? I had the rare switchable sport one on my old BMW 325i e30 and i thrashed the bollocks off that and it didn't complain ever!

I wouldn't mind a V6 Xantia, they do sound fast, and would definately kill my old 325i and THAT was fast, the auto box was a treat, shame it's computer nearly killed me in a car crash. But thats another story, give me a manual over an automatic any day!

now i am s**t myself!!

Mine is a 1997 R reg with 119k on the clock. Full service history, and is immaculate apparently (not seen it, bought it blind).

**prays its not a bad one**

It's gotta get me from Horsham in sussex to Manchester for the weekend, then get me to Glasgow, so i am praying that the auto box in it is good!

That's a pre face lift one then is it? I think they had an earlier version of the ZF box. If it has a dipstick then it's the earlier version, the late ones have a level plug instead, more like the AL4 fitted to the 2.0 version.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Another week point which isnt V6 specific is the heater matrix. I've got a nasty feeling mine is on its way out due to the drops of water that have appeared today :(

Bear in mind the auto adaptive box on the Xantia V6 is VERY VERY sensitive to the correct quantity of oil. Officially the box should be plugged into a special Citroen tool to make sure the correct quantity is put back in.

Citroen say this box is 'sealed for life' but i'm certainly making sure the oil in mine is changed every 10k.

I'm not too concerned about the engine itself. Mine has done only 35k and has been serviced an unbelievable number of times in its life. The late 24v V6's in the Xantias would appear to be one of the most reliable engine Citroen have made of late.

Earlier V6's had the dipstick uder the air filter, later ones did away with it and use a level plug instead.

You don't intend towing with the thing do you!?

Nope, there isn't a tow bar on the car either which pleased me, made me think its not been worked hard anyway.

I pick the car up on Friday, so i will get some pictures posted of the car when i get it. The Cam Belts were changed about 50,000 miles ago. Probably going to need to get them done again soon.

Cheers
David.
