there should be a sensor in the clutch housing for the rev counter pick up,if you find this then follow the wire back to the plug block, was it you in an earlyer post asking about your speedo beeing intermitent as this will be a diferant plug which is behind the gear box end of the engine, right down the back pluged into the transducer which is fitted into the diff where a speedo cable would normaly go

You may find the connector on the end of the cylinder head just above the clutch bell housing/flywheel, at least, thats where it is on my XM, but its hidden by a lot of pipes.

These magnetic coil pickup sensors are prone to disrupt for good. I lost the rev counter on my BX TRD as well and found the connector on the clutch bellhousing. I ended up cutting up the cable from the sensor had both leads stripped down just to see it was fresh shining copper - but still was totally disrupted (high ohm).

As the sensor is located at end of cylinder head - "just around the corner" (on the rear of cylinder head) over/in the bellhousing - it is practically impossible to get at. Unless you are there for other serious repair works anyway - like a HG job

Might not be as bad in a Xantia TD though.
