Rock and roll ride

Post by Jshodgson »

At slow speed (10-15) and especially with the clutch in, my estate rolls from side to side like a boat on a rough sea! I don't feel it at higher speed although there is a bit of steering wheel wobble. I've checked the trye pressures but they are fine. I am not carrying any uneven loads etc...

Hello try jacking it up and rotating a wheel (1 at a time.) look for any lumps in the sidewalls both inner and outer and check to see if its running true and not out of round.
Cheers.

I would agree with goldfinche, the most likely problem is out of round tyre/s.

The 2 rears were a shape I've never seen before! It looked like they had been melted they were so mishaped.

I now have 4 new tyres and the tracking has been done. I'll see tomorrow if it's done the trick at speed but driving home it felt much better.

Round tyres are known to ride better than any other shape of tyre

I had a similar problem with my spare - so out of round that it felt like the wheel was going to fall off!

I've just taken it out for a spin and there is no "rock and roll", the tyres seem to have been the problem. Great.
