C5 estate owners (a quick question).

Post by user_3150 »

At the tip today a C5 parked next to me and it had a switch in the boot with what looked like height settings displayed on it. You know a circle with a line through it at different heights. What does it do and why would you use it?

Maybe its a way to adjust the height of the car without having to expend energy walking round to the cabin?

To change the height of the car so you can put heavy loads in without breaking your back!

It would be better if you could change the height from the keyfob.

Can you imaging the chaos that would happen if that went wrong?!?!

Nice idea in principle though.

Yes, that button is used to change the rear suspension heigth, to whatever height you want between the lowest and the highest position (these included) As such you have an infinit choice of height, not being limited to the 4 standard positions. Very handy, i usually choose the highest, or near, position when loading the supermarket groceries, as when they are heavy or many, the sinking is lower than on normal height; and ye, you won't break your back as much :P
Only problem is when the 12V accessories fuse blows, the button ceases to work :(:( (gotta get me a fuse...)
A remote function on the key fob would be nice, but only available for the next 30 seconds after opening/closing the car, as that's more than enough time to decide if we want it to stay as usual, or at another height.

Cheers!

If you do alter the cill height using the up/down switch at the boot door, the chosen level stays there for only a few minutes before automatically going back to normal height.

It stays there until the boot lid is closed, or one of the doors is open/closed

I've never heard about such a feature for the C5, how handy would that be and the 'how cool is this' ranking would be sky high :P

Unfortunately, only the estate has this feature :(, as this would be also a good solution the the hatchback, for when loading some heavy suitcases. i'm glad we have the estate :D

Interesting language they use there, on Honest John:

"it's still over nearly 2 metres long" (referring to the lenght of the C5 luggage compartment)

I'm sure that style would go a long way with Mr. Plod . . . . "but I was only doing over NEARLY 70 mph".

Best report them Mr. Blairs language police!

While most hatchbacks may lack a rear wiper, once you are moving you don't notice it.

The estate rear window will pick up a lot of road dirt on damp motorways, but the saloon will always be as clean as an operating theatre!
