Pollen filter removal on Xsara Mk 1

Post by smashymike »

Hi - now this is a simple one ... hard for me but easy for you lads! I've taken the upper carpet away from the passenger footwell and all i can see is a black object with no screws (haynes says screws maybe) but two little white arrows lining up. Question is how do i get this cover off, i'm assuming the filter is behind? Do i need to slide it, lever it, force it, twist it or what? Need to change it asap as there's a foisty smell soon after driving off which i think could be a dodgy filter ... cheers.

If you've found the cover, (about 1 inch by 6 inches if I remember) you slide it to the side. I don't remember which side though.

The cover is sliding, with possibly still one screw in it.
Ideas and pictures here, and the filter can be washed:
