If I change my head unit, is there a cable I can so I can still use the steering wheel controls does anybody know?

Depends on the head unit.
Search the forum - there's been quite a lot of discussion about it.

Some units are advertised as remote control compatable, mine is a Kenwood but I think Sony also do them. You will probably need an adaptor, I got mine off the net.

yes I got a adapter for my kenwood unit (with the intention of putting a Xant wheel in the ZX) but found it has a infa-red port rather than a hard wired remote, so now I have another box which converts it to a infa-red signal
I scrapped the idea when I bought a C4 steering wheel :P
