BX clutch

Post by sue »

Got a BX 1.9 petrol, which had a new clutch fitted 2 years ago.Recently it's been hard to get into first and reverse, problem is worse when the car's hot.It looks like the clutch needs adjusting but the pedal is already about three inches higher than the brake!Any ideas?Would a new cable help? Thanks

Hi Sue - Surely not three inches higher! For the clutch to be adjusted correctly push the pedal to the floor and measure from the centre of the pedal pad to the lower edge of the steering wheel. Then release the pedal, measure again from pedal to steering wheel. For the clutch adjustment to be correct, the difference between the two figures should be 150mm +/- 5mm. The adjustment is carried out at the gearbox end of the cable.

The release arm on the bell housings have been known to crack and bend on certain BX's, not sure if this model was afflicted.
I believe the pedal box was also a bit mechano like on these cars.
