Flickering stop and exclamation lights.

Post by Bigjoe »

Evening all,
Bit of a long shot but does anyone have any idea's what could be making my stop and exclaamation lights flicker, its intermittent aswell, ive checked engine oil level,LHM level and i changed the front pads and sensors about 500 miles ago,i know its a long shot but there might be a common gremlin....ive also got a weep from one of the LHM pipes into the pump, might this be a possible cause?

And on the off chance would anyone have rear silencer that would fit a 1.6i Lreg hatchback knocking about that they would like to sell?

thanks :D
Im out there somewhere!

how long does it take to pressurise when first started in the morning? Is the accumulator in good nick (not causng fast clicking of the pressure regulator)?

You've neglected to tell us when it flickers and under what circumstances... very important info..... is it doing it while driving ?

When you say you've checked the LHM level, just to confirm, you are checking the level with the suspension fully up, right ? (You'd be amazed how many people get that wrong)

And I also agree with dnsey - is the accumulator sphere ok ? How often between regulator ticks when idling ?

Regards,
Simon

It does take a while to 'get up' in the morning ,and it does it while driving, but some days it doesnt do it all!?

And yep i have checked the LHM with the suspension up.

So am i guessing the accumulator sphere is knackered? :(

It clicks quite regularly sometimes (about every 4-5 seconds) and every 30-45 seconds at other times :?

In that case, the accumulator's probably OK.

Did you check the level by dipping it or just by the indicator on top of the tank?.. it can stick.

Interesting comment......the forum seems divided on the topic of whether or not the float (the lhm indicator bubble marker thingy me jigger) can actually stick or not.....i personally have had a wee look and dont believe theres anything that can get 'stuck'

The float cant stick. Its a plastic float inside a separate plastic tube.
If it ever would stick somewhere between empty & full - thats because its not LHM in the tank - but mud

It may seem to stick at full reading - because its pressed against the top of the bulb by too high an LHM level.
Or simply because owners keep forgetting the float level must be checked with suspension set to full height only.

3 years ago, I took mine into a main dealer (and got fleeced £30!) .. I asked them to check why the light kept on flickering and staying on when going up hills. They couldn't find anything wrong..just a citroen glitch... I ignored it for another year and asked a private garage to take a look at i, as the light had been coming on more often.. they found the LHM tank almost empty.. and the float stuck!!

:?:

You would certainly have had massive hydraulic problems then - other than a flickering light -
- or it was a case of the mud option.
