Electric windows

Post by Stempy »

Having problems with the N/S rear electric window on my Xantia. It stopped working and I managed to obtain a replacement motor mechanism but still no joy. I've checked the pins in the plug and there seems to be a 12v supply ok, there are two pin which each go to 12v when the up or down switch is pressed and one pin which has 4.5v on it leaving one pin with nothing.

Anyone know anything about these or have a wiring diagram?

The problem is probably due to your 4.5 volts, you should have 12v on one input and 0v on the other as one side should be earthed. The fault is probably with the switch/es. Try swapping it with the other door, and if it has central lockout switches, try swapping them over as well, that should transfer the fault to the other side.

Thanks for the reply, I should have mentioned that this is a fully automatic type with anti pinch that is only usually fitted to the drivers door. It has 5 pins connecting to the motor, one has 12v, one is ground, two are the 12v up/down switch feeds and the other is the mystery 4.5 volts. I could dump 12v onto the pin with 4.5v but I'd like to know what it's for first as I don't want any smoke

It's not a wire broken between the door and the car? I've seen that happen a few times.
