Problem with immobiliser

Post by KennyW »

Hi gang,

Looking for some inf re the above, my brother in law's girlfriend's car which is Renault Clio R plate petrol poss 1.2 or 1.4 immob has cut in and car is failing to start.

I've suggested checking fuse and/or deactivating same by removing battery connections.

Looking for advise since I think the engine will be found in citroen and peugeot vehicles.

Regards

I can see a trip to a Renault dealer & having the keys recoded.

This Renault wont have a PSA engine under the bonnet, As far as I know the 3 litre petrol V6 24 valve ES9J4 lump the Laguna II uses is the only PSA lump that makes an appearance under a Renault bonnet.

I have little knowledge of these things having been fortunate to avoid owning one except for an aftermarket one on our ZX but can't you override some by using the key in the drivers door in a sequence to be found in the driver's handbook?

I know the key in the door lock works on most Rover cars if the owner knows the 4 digit EKA code & how to use it.

Renault immobilisers aint the most user friendly in the world, It might be better to seek the help of an auto locksmith.

A common immobiliser problem on Clio's is the ring which sits around the ignition lock and receives the immob signal. The part is available separately for around £30 IIRC.
